How to Compare ICHRA Plans

Learn what employees should consider when comparing individual health insurance plans and how their residential location affects the plans available to them.

Available individual health insurance plans depend on the employee's residential location. A work address or worksite ZIP code cannot be substituted for the employee's residential location.

Plans can also vary based on:

  • Coverage year

  • Employee age

  • Family members applying for coverage

  • Applicable Marketplace

  • Carrier participation in the employee's area

An outdated residential address may display plans the employee cannot purchase or prevent plans that would otherwise be available from appearing.

When comparing plans, employees should consider more than the monthly premium. Plans can differ in:

  • Premium

  • Provider network

  • Prescription drug coverage

  • Cost sharing

Two plans at the same metal level can have different networks, deductibles, formularies, and authorization requirements.

Questions about a specific policy, provider network, prescription formulary, or expected medical usage should be directed to a licensed broker supporting the account or another appropriately qualified resource.
