Plan-year tasks are recurring activities that help an employer prepare for, administer, and close out each ICHRA plan year. Starting early supports coordinated plan decisions, employee communications, enrollment timing, and recordkeeping.
Before a new plan year begins, employers should review plan design, employee classes, allowance amounts, eligibility rules, effective dates, and current workforce information. Applicable Large Employers may also need to evaluate affordability and prepare for ACA reporting. Required notices and enrollment communications should be reviewed and delivered within applicable timelines.
During the plan year, workforce changes, eligibility updates, requested documentation, and unresolved administrative matters should be addressed promptly. At the end of the plan year, records should be reviewed for completeness, and any proposed changes for the following year should be documented before implementation.
Related matters may also be addressed in Program Updates, Eligibility Updates, and Open Items.
Employers remain responsible for plan-year decisions, timely employee communications, accurate records, and compliance with applicable notice and reporting requirements.
