Program Updates

Learn how to plan and manage changes to your ICHRA program, including plan design, administration, and effective dates.

Program updates are changes to the design or administration of an employer's ICHRA. Planning updates in advance helps coordinate plan documents, employee communications, payroll, enrollment, and applicable effective dates.

Updates may involve allowance amounts, eligible employee classes, waiting periods, effective-date rules, plan-year timing, or employer contact information. Some changes may be more appropriate for the next plan year and may require additional review before taking effect.

Before requesting an update, the employer should identify the business objective, proposed effective date, affected employees, and any related changes to existing plan terms. Approved changes should be documented consistently and communicated to affected employees when required.

Program updates may also affect information or actions addressed in Allowances, Employer Admin, and Enrollment.

Employers remain responsible for making plan-design decisions, providing accurate information, and determining whether an update is permitted under applicable law and the governing plan documents.
