A requested effective date or submitted application does not confirm that coverage is active.

Treat an employee's enrollment as pending until the carrier has:

  • Accepted the application

  • Confirmed the policy

  • Received any required initial premium

The carrier's confirmation is the authoritative record of whether a policy is active. A platform status, application receipt, or payment record can support the review but does not replace carrier confirmation.

Coverage verification connects the employee's insurance enrollment with ICHRA administration. An allowance is not treated as available for a period when the employee was not eligible, and it is not applied for a month when coverage has not been verified.

Many carriers may also request additional information, identity verification, eligibility documents, or payment after an application is submitted. These requests are usually time-limited.
